Why do the videos pause or stutter?

Last Updated: Apr 18, 2016 11:40AM CDT

When videos sometimes pause, stutter or "buffer", it is caused by the speed of your Internet connection and / or the processing power of your computer.

Most Internet videos are simultaneously downloaded and played at the same time. If your Internet connection isn’t fast enough (meaning your computer is trying to play the video faster than it can download it), you will get poor video performance.
Also, it could be caused by your computer not being powerful enough to both download and playback the video at the same time (this is especially true with high-quality videos, such as Gemba Academy's).

Possible Solutions:

  1. Make sure you are viewing the "standard definition" version of our videos.  Toggle the "HD" button on the video player so that it is grey
  2. Start playing the video, then click the "pause" button.  Wait for a minute before resuming playback.  This will allow more of the video to download before attempting playback.
  3. Make sure you are using the latest version of a modern browser.  Modern browsers include Internet Explorer 11 and the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox or Safari
  4. Make sure you are not doing other network intensive tasks while attempting to watch a video.  For instance if you are downloading or uploading files while also attempting to watch Gemba Academy Videos
  5. If you are on a corporate network, ask your IT department if your connection is limited or "throttled" to a certain speed.  You may need to have your network limitations removed.
